Painting Shadows and Light

Shadows in the Skin - Feb 2015I dusted off my paints this week

and lost myself

in the contemplation of colour and space.

With a photo of my younger self,

I struggled to create

The shadows on her skin

And lost my self in blues and browns

And touched the sadness in her eyes.

With a photo from my daughter’s youth,

Sunlight on Hair-Feb 2015I tried to capture

Sunlight bouncing off silky hair

And lost myself in pinks and whites

And swelled with the joy in life.

I dusted off my paints this week

and lost myself

in the contemplation of time and place.

About kp

I am a woman and a mother, a sister and a wife. I have called myself a socialist and a feminist, an environmentalist and an activist, a pagan and an atheist. But, at this stage in my life, none of these labels feel right. I am searching; trying to find an inner calm; trying to make peace with life's disappointments; trying to answer the big questions in my own small life.

    • kp says:

Thanks Kimberly…I have painted off and on over the years; sometimes for pleasure and sometimes for therapeutic or spiritual reasons. I have posted a few other paintings on my website (i.e. my tree woman and my gravatar) but have never declared them to be mine. Kim

  4. It’s wonderful you are rediscovering painting. Beautiful. You must keep it up.
